CERTIFICATION DEADLINES

Certification deadlines for tournament or provincial championships vary accross Canada.  It is your responsibility to check with our Coach Development person at coachplayerdev@saskatoonringette.com with regard to the deadlines affecting your certification.

TEAM MANAGER RESPONSIBILITIES

The duties listed below may or may not apply to your team.

If your team wishes to participate in Provincials, notify the Saskatoon Ringette office at office@saskatoonringette.com before the appointed deadlines.  LATE APPLICATIONS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED.  The deadline for A/AA Provincials is November 15th and the deadline for B/C Provincials is November 15th.

The team Manager needs to work with the other team staff, team treasurer and parents to ensure that everyone is kept informed and organized.

The Manager does NOT need to do all the work themselves - ask for volunteers to take care of various tasks and delegate.  This also helps to get more people involved with the team.

PRE-SEASON

  • Collect contact information from players; including player name, phone number, address(es), parent name(s), e-mail, and birthdate.  Medical information is collected on the registration forms and will be sent to each team separately.  This can be helpful to the coaches but should be handled discretely.  This information should be stored in the team first aid kit.
  • Discuss season plans with team staff to determine possible tournaments, team apparel, etc.   Based on these ideas, create an estimated team budget including practice ice, tournament entry fees, year-end and other miscellaneous costs (such as pictures or bus transportation).
  • Book practice ice if team decided to do extra.
  • Meet with team parents to finalize a plan for the season - which tournaments to attend, whether to take a bus, team apparel and other decisions requiring their input.
  • Recruit a Treasurer and Co-signor (these are ideally someone other than the coach/manager or their spouses).  Request an initial payment from each player for the Treasurer to open the team account.
  • Create team phone lists and schedules to hand out to each of the players.  Remember to assign each family to timekeep, scorekeep or shot clock (if required) for each league game.  You can also create a wallet sized team list including players with their jersey numbers.
  • Once the tournament(s) have been decided on:
    • Submit the tournament application form ASAP along with a cheque from the Treasurer.  Some tournaments fill up quickly.
    • Book a bus if the team has decided to take one.
    • Book hotel rooms.  Don't forget to book one for the bus driver if you are taking a bus.  Make sure to check with the team to determine how m any rooms are needed.
    • Some tournaments require each team to provide scorekeepers, timekeepers and shot clock workers.  Be prepared to assign these tasks or to get volunteers.
    • Prepare an itinerary for the tournament weekend.

REGULAR SEASON

  • Fill out the gamesheet for games.  This is most easily done using stickers (2x4" mailing labels).  You will need 3 stickers per game - one for each copy of the gamesheet.  Remember to cross out any players that are absent and add any players that have been picked up.  Indicate any picked up players with an AP beside their name on the gamesheet.  Click here to see a sample gamesheet.
  • Fundraising - this is a good opportunity to get others involved with the team.  Recruit volunteers to organize/coordinate various fundraising activities the team can decide on.
  • Book team photos.

POST SEASON

  • Organize a year end team wind-up.
  • Collect all jerseys for the coach to return.  These must be mended and washed.
