ACTIVE START

Active Start is the former Learn to Play program.  Active Start will begin its season the beginning of October Saskatoon and Warman.

It is a program that aims to introduce young players to the sport of ringette. The focus of the program is to develop core ringette skills such as skating as well as other ringette-specific skills in accordance with Long Term Athlete Development (LTAD) principles.

ICE SESSIONS
The Active Start program will run from October to March with approximately 11 sessions prior to Christmas and 11 sessions after Christmas (subject to change).

Ice times will take place once a week in Saskatoon on Sundays from 2:15-3:15pm at Cosmo Arena (2022-23) and Warman will be determined closer to the start of the season depending what the families registered would like. (2022-23).

Start date for Active Start in Saskatoon is Sunday, October 2nd for the 2022-23 season and in Warman this is still to be determined.

WHO IS ELIGIBLE?
Children 4 and 5 years old with little or no skating experience are eligible for the program.

Players may have the option of moving from Active Start to Fundamentals, or Fundamentals to Active Start after Christmas if it is believed that the child will have a better experience by changing divisions. The SRA Board of Directors, in consultation with the Active Start coordinator and parents, will have final approval of any request to move a child in or out of the Active Start program after the Christmas break. If approved, registration fees would be adjusted as needed.

COST
The cost of the Active Start program is $435 + $75 for coupon books per player for a full season or $272.50 + $75 for coupon books per player for a half season.

VOLUNTEERS/COACHES
An Active Start coordinator will lead the program using session plans that have been developed for the program and in accordance with LTAD. This coordinator will be supported by adult on-ice instructors who will lead sub-groups as required (roughly 10 players per sub-group). Sub-group instructors will be supported by on-ice helpers (volunteers, mentors, older players). Active Start coordinators and instructors must attend a skills instructor clinic at the beginning of the season, and complete a Criminal Record Check.
